It Might Get Loud

It Might Get Loud is a documentary featuring The Edge, Jimmy Page, and Jack White. At first it starts off interviewing each one separately and then they eventually get into a room together and discuss guitars and music. Then it starts switching from individual interviews back to them discussing guitars and back again. The documentary covers the entire career of each musician starting from when they first found out about the guitar to where they’re at now. It has some good video of them hanging around with their bands and stuff and it was especially cool to see Led Zeppelin goofing around in the front yard of the place where they recorded the legendary Led Zeppelin 4.  It ends with the three of them sitting around playing The Weight by The Band. What an awesome tune to end it on and what an awesome way to hear it. If you’re into rock “n” roll or any of the three bands that the musicians are in or are a fan of the musicians themselves or if your just a fan of awesome stuff you should definitely have a look at It Might Get Loud. I mean I wouldn’t know where else to find out how much of a badass Jack White is when he builds a guitar out farm junk and starts playing it right there. I think that’s probably only in It Might get Loud and that is totally awesome.

Gonzo

Gonzo is a fantastically entertaining and educational documentary about Hunter S. Thompson. It hits all the major events in Thompson’s life with interviews from friends and family members who knew him during those times. it even has Johnny Depp reading excerpts from his work from time to time. It tracks his life from Journalist to Gonzo Journalist to Celebrity and then finally his suicide in 2005. If you’ve ever read The Rum Diaries or Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas or any of his other books or articles and wanted to know more about Hunter S. Thompson. You really should see Gonzo. In fact normally when I’m done with a movie on Netflix I delete it out of the Instant Queue. I had it highlighted on the Xbox to delete and then I was like nope I’m keeping this one it definitely deserves a replay soon. I hardly ever watch documentaries twice, but this one was just that good.

Suck!!!

I saw this little gem in my Google Reader this morning and it’s already blowing me away!!! It’s a movie called Suck and it’s about vampires and rock “n” roll!!! But wait there’s more! Not only is it about vampires and rawk it’s a comedy, it’s got a serious who’s who of cameos like Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, and Moby, and it’s got a sweet sound track with the likes of Lou reed, The Stones, and some other the aforementioned players! Man, let’s run that check list again vampires, comedy, rockers, and a sweet soundtrack. Well this is obviously leading up to a sum of awesome! It’s going to run at south By Southwest this year. I don’t know if it’ll hit the theaters. If it does I’m there. If not it’s at the top of the list the second it gets on Netflix!

Loud Quiet Loud

On Sunday I watched Loud Quiet Loud which totally ruled. Loud Quiet Loud is a documentary about The Pixies. It takes place during their 2004 reunion tour. The reunion tour brought them back together and I think they’ve been on and off touring ever since. If you’re a fan of the Pixies and missed seeing them back in the day you should really check out Loud Quiet Loud because it shows a lot of cool backstage and personal stuff, it shows how their fans have never lost interest in their music, and best and most importantly of all it shows The Pixies putting on some super sick shows that sound as good today as they did in the late 80’s. That’s the thing about The Pixies I could not listen to them for two or three years and then crank them up one day and it sounds just as good as the first time I ever heard them. It’ll be like that the rest of my life and on into the future even after I’m gone. What do call something like that with such awesome staying power? Oh yeah, classic!!!

Robin Hood

I saw the Robin Hood trailer for the super bowl and while awesome, that’s not the Robin Hood I wanted bring to the attention of you Atomsplitters today. The Robin Hood I have in mind is the seriously sick BBC version. If you haven’t had a chance to check this show out you really should. It’s got so action, twists and turns, and they even introduce new characters to the stories like Archer, Robin’s half brother. Most of of the old characters are in there too. They left out a couple of Will’s, but that’s OK since there’s like three Will’s in Howard Pyle’s Merry Adventures Of Robin Hood! This year was the last year for it and it ended explosively, literally! So there are only three seasons. That’s not that long really so if you’re looking for an sweet action TV show to wile away the cabin fever for the rest of the winter, especially if your stuck in Snowmageddon then definitely check out the BBC’s Robin Hood! You can get it from their site, at least this season, Netflix, or keep an eye out for a marathon on the BBC. They do that sometimes.

For Those About To Rock

Two pieces of AC/DC news dropped this week and i thought they were pretty interesting especially since I’m a huge fan of AC/DC! The first bit of news is that AC/DC will be performing at the Download Festival at Donington Park. Donington Park was where the AC/DC Live DVD was shot during one of their famous Monsters Of Rock performances. I wonder why AC/DC is playing at the Download Festival since they don’t put up their music for download anywhere. The next bit of news is that AC/DC will supply the soundtrack for Iron Man 2!!! That’s awesome. Now I really want to see it. Do any of you Atomsplitters remember Maximum Overdrive the Stephen King movie? AC/DC did the soundtrack for that too , and not only that they were in the movie for a second in the beginning when the bride went haywire.I wonder if AC/DC is going to be in Iron Man 2. I’m going to keep my peepers peeled just in case.

Full Size Transformers In Yard

This is really awesome. Saw it on CNN.com. Family up in north east built full size Bumblebee and Optimus Prime in their front yard for Halloween.

Terminator Salvation

It was only a matter of time before I saw Terminator Salvation. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you’d know it wasn’t something I was going to miss since I’m a big fan of the franchise, even the TV show. Terminator Salvation was what they invented the word awesome for. I was talking to my friend afterwards and I was like remember that part that was totally awesome and he was like which one and I was like the whole thing and he was like heck yeah!!! That’s how awesome it is. Without giving too much away it’s about John Conner starting to lead the resistance soon after Judgement Day. So he’s not in full command yet and he’s got a long road to go before he beats the machines and that’s the whole point. McG wants this to be the start of a wwhole new series taking place in the future where John Conner finally beats the machines in the end. That would be great. I hear they plan to do at least two more and I hope the plan becomes a reality and they do!

Prince Caspian

Around the same time I saw Terminator I also saw Prince Caspian. I’m a big fan of the Narnia books and the movies are awesome so far. Although I don’t see how they are going to be able to make all of them since some of them can be a little politically incorrect in todays geopolitical climate, but I hope they do. Anyway, It seems while The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe made around 700 million dollars Caspian only made 400 million and that didn’t suit Disney so they dropped the series. It was partly my fault since I was waiting to watch it on DVD and then didn’t get it until way after it came out. I’ll have to correct that mistake when Voyage Of The Dawn Treader comes out in 2010. Prince Caspian is the second written book in the Narnia series, but fourth in Narnian chronological order. I wished they’d have done them in that order, but not as many people know about The Magicians Nephew as they do The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe so I guess they figured they’d start where C.S. Lewis started. Prince Caspian starts hundreds of years after Wardrobe and Narnia has fallen into ruin as a race of men has come into the land and subjugated and killed many of the Narnians like the talking animals, fauns, and dwarves. Prince Caspian was one of those people, but he wasn’t a bad guy at heart and so through a series of events he ends up fighting with the Narnians against his own people. They added a lot of extra stuff that wasn’t in the books and more battles which is always good so if you haven’t had a chance to see Prince Caspian you should check it out. Even if you’re not a fan of Narnia you might still like it anyway.
